Mr. Joseph Kin Fun Kwok, Executive Committee Member and National Secretary for Hong Kong, Rehabilitation International, Hong Kong, China

 

Mr. Joseph Kin Fun Kwok is a prominent crusader in the rehabilitation field. During the 1981 UN International Year of Disabled Persons, Mr. Kwok was instrumental in organizing major public education campaigns, including the first Abilympics, in Hong Kong. He participated in the first International Abilympics in Japan and has been an Executive Committee member of the International Abilympics Federation.

Mr. Kwok was Chairman of the Rehabilitation Advisory Committee (RAC) from 2004 to 2009. He continues to advise the HKSAR Government on the promotion of an inclusive society for persons with disabilities. He is also the Vice-Chairperson of the Hong Kong Joint Council for People with Disabilities.

In the international arena, Mr. Kwok was a founding member of the Regional NGO Network for the Promotion of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons 1993-2002. He has been Vice-Chairperson of the Regional Committee for Asia and the Pacific of Rehabilitation International since 1996, and Executive Committee Member and Chairman, Rehabilitation International Social Commission since 2008. He was also the Vice-Chairman of the Asia and Pacific Disability Forum from 2008 to 2012, and Chairman of its Working Committee on the Incheon Strategy.

Mr. Kwok was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS), HKSAR Government in 2005 and the Kazuo Itoga Memorial Award, Shiga Prefecture, Government of Japan in 2006.
