Champions and Promoters of the new Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013-2022, met at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok on 9 and 10 October to strategize and review a roadmap to promote the implementation of the Incheon Strategy to ‘Make the Right Real’ for Persons with Disabilities in Asia and the Pacific. The roadmap will provide a framework to support the achievement of the 10 goals of the Incheon Strategy.
The Champions, as selected by an international Jury, were recognized for their outstanding achievements and overall impact with regard to the promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities during the past decades. They included among others a notable parliamentarian, a community leader in poverty reduction and a leader of women’s rights. The Promoters were recognized for their exceptional knowledge and experiences in specialized areas related to the 10 goals of the Incheon Strategy to ‘Make the Right Real’ for Persons with Disabilities in Asia and the Pacific.
