The Social Development Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) organized an Expert Group Meeting to review the draft version of the Outcome Document to be adopted at the upcoming High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Midpoint Review of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013-2022.
The meeting was held on 1 and 2 June 2017 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok and brought together over twelve experts in disability policy and statistics from government, civil society, the academia and international organizations.
The draft version was prepared by ESCAP under the technical guidance of the Working Group on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities. Based on the results of a recently closed regional survey undertaken to take stock of the progress in the implementation of the Incheon Strategy, the document is intended to provide a set of critical actions to be taken by ESCAP Member States and relevant stakeholders over the second half of the Decade to accelerate the achievement of goals and targets in the Incheon Strategy by 2022. Through the two-day hard work, experts made substantive inputs to improve the draft document which will be shared later with ESCAP member States for their feedback and final review.
